Today will be the day
we listened to records
while learning to play cribbage
as the sweet scent of homemade zucchini bread blanketed the house
and rain pitter-pattered against the window panes
begging to be let in
to join the party
The streets were quiet
the park next door empty
Today was a good day
we were happy
and healthy
and it may not have been the Saturday we would choose
if we had a choice
but given another,
I’d choose it again
and again.
